Carkit options from Zone 2
Why use a Bluetooth carkit?
In August, the government announced a law change that will make it illegal for drivers to talk or send text messages on handheld mobile phones while driving. From November 1, drivers using handheld mobiles will be liable for an $80 fine and 20 demerit points.
There are a lot of distractions while driving, but handheld mobile phone use has grown to become a significant problem. According to statistics, there were 25 fatal crashes and 482 injury crashes between 2003 and 2008 where the use of a cellphone or another mobile device was a factor.
The ban will not cover hands-free devices because many business and trades people depend on their phones for work.
What are Bluetooth Carkits and why are they Important?
A Bluetooth carkit allows you to communicate with anybody safely and legally without having to break contact with the steering wheel or eye contact with the road leaving you to concentrate on driving. Even though Bluetooth carkits provide a safer means to communicate and drive, ultimately you are responsible for driving in a safe manner. The police can still prosecute for dangerous driving if you are using the phone while driving through the Bluetooth kit if you are driving erratically or dangerously.
Bluetooth options
- Bluetooth Headset

The simplest, and most cost-effective, way to go handsfree. Simply pair the headset with your phone, put the headset on your ear, and calls can be made wirelessly. Good for people who make short, infrequent trips.
The headset can get a little uncomfortable if you're wearing it for long periods of time. - Portable Carkit
The portable kit consists of a bluetooth speaker and microphone, that clip on your sun visor. This is a great option if you make longer trips, more often. Just switch on the carkit when you get in the car, and you can answer calls using the buttons on the carkit. - Fully installer carkit
The best option if you're in the car a lot, the fully installed kit has more features, and is more user friendly. The carkit turns on with the car's ignition, sound from the car radio gets muted automatically, and there are more options for displays, etc.
